I have the vmm provider installed and it is registered in ASR. The Hyper-V Agent is also installed.  I have a Hyper-v site created. When I try to create a protection group, a pop-up shows up saying I need to complete the prerequisites with Install the provider and register servers in pending status.

What do I need to do to get past this?

Looks like you are using the VMM to Azure Scenario, for this scenario you do not need to create a protection group. The protection group needs to be created only when you do not have a VMM Servers in the picture.

Please follow the steps mentioned in https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/site-recovery-vmm-to-azure/ to get started with replicating VMs
