Prompted for password but only over wifi

Strange scenario.
All our PCs open sharepoint (local) and all is fine. There are photos that come from the mysite host and they display no problem.
Any devices connected via out internal wifi are prompted for a username and password to display the photo from the mysite host.

SharePoint is accessed as http://sharepoint and the image lives at http://mysite.sharepoint.co.nz (example urls but in the correct format)

When I use fiddler I see the 401 for the image immediately followed by the http 200.
I look at the auth tab in fiddler and I see the expected challenge/response info

When I look at fiddler from a device (and am prompted by http://mysite.sharepoint.co.nz ) the auth tab is almost empty. It just says

WWW-Authenticate Header is present: NTLM

Any idea why devices on the wired LAN can challenge/response with this other host but Wifi connected devices (windows 8 tablets, iPhones) are prompted as though challenge/response is not permitted to happen automatically?

Are you certain that this is indeed a wired versus wireless issue and not a
domain joined versus non-domain joined

It may not be wireless after all. The sys admin has just reproduced the issue with the devices docked. On the LAN with wireless and cellular disabled. Not sure what you mean by non-domain joined?

You mentioned iPhones for example, they obviously can't join an Active
Directory d

True but the problem affects win8 tablets which are on the domain and users log on to AD just as they would a PC. These are mobile users whose tablets double up as wireless devices when out of the office

Hi,

According to your description, my understanding is that it prompts for a username and password to display the photo on SharePoint site, and this problem only happened on some devices.

Access the website via Internet Explorer. Confirm below settings on the problematic devices.
1. Bypassing proxy server for local addresses(if Proxy Server is enabled)
Run inetcpl.cpl - Connections - LAN Settings - Proxy server, select the Bypass proxy server for local addresses check box - OK.
2. Adding a team Web site to the list of trusted intranet sites
Internet Explorer Tools - Internet Options - Security - Local intranet Sites Advanced - Type the URL of the team Web site in the Add this Web site to the zone box Add OK.
