Problems Installing SM2012 SP1 DW
While trying to install a Data Warehouse server for Service Manager 2012 SP1, I'm receiving the error "The SQL Server <server FQDN> is not running version SQL Server 2008 R2 or SQL Server 2012.  Please update it to the newest version and retry." while on the "Configure the reporting server for the data warehouse" page.  The SQL server is running SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 CU6, with SSRS installed.  I have already tried the mofcomp command from http://myitforum.com/myitforumwp/2012/06/05/service-manager-scsm-2012-the-sql-server-is-not-running-version-sql-2008-or-sql-2008-r2/ with no luck.  Has anyone else run into this?

Hi Brian

Make sure the user that you are installing the DW as has SysAdmin rights on the SQL Server instance.  I think that  is the cause of your issue.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers

The account I'm using does have full SysAdmin rights on the SQL server.

Hi,

You could try this although it is related to SQL 2008.

Thanks

I figured out by watching the SetupWizard logs that it was looking for a default SQL instance rather than the named one I had setup, even though I had specified the instance name via command line and GUI.  Apparently setup ignores instance information and requires the default instance since it tries to access the MSSQLSERVICE on whatever SQL server you specify.  Since SQL changes the service name based on the instance name, that fails if it isn't the default instance.  I'd call that a bug with the installer.
