Problem with Windows 2000 Profile Creation
I have a problem setting up user profiles in Windows 2000. I am converting my old computer for the kids use. I dont want their information (pictures, web surfing temp files, etc...) stored on the system drive. Ive been following Cowart and Knittels Using Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional instructions in chapter 32 under Storing User Profiles. This not only creates what I desire, but what I dont as well. Something saved by a configured user is stored on both C:\ & L:\. Ive tried setting up the home directory in the same local with the same result. Searching through the registry I found the profiles, a modified example is below (taken from XP, but essentially the same). Key Name: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-... ProfileImagePath: %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME% CentralProfile: L:\PROFILES\%USERNAME% How can I set up the profiles to behave the way I want? Would altering the ProfileImagePath to be the same as the CentralProfile do the trick? TIA MNM

Hi, Your assumption is correct, you should change the "ProfileImagePath" to L:\PROFILES\%USERNAME% if you would like to use Drive L: to store profiles. Thanks. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

I did and it worked. Prior to creation I copied the All Users and Defualt Users directories to L:\Profiles via BartPE.I had to recopy Start Menu links afterward but that was the only glitch.Thanks.
