Problem with Administrator login
Hi I have a problem with my windows 2008 server standar, i try to log in as Administrator and i get "User or password incorrect" but if i reboot in directory service restore mode, i can do it success. I've read, in windows 2008 Administrator account is disabled by default but i have no found the way to enable it. I tried like in windows Vista but it doesn't work. I tried also reset Administrator password with passware cd but i get the same result. Thanks in advance, i hope you can help me with this problem Have a nice day Daniel Beas

What administrator account are you using? The local admin account? You say you boot to directory service restore mode, so this computer seems to be a DC. The local admin account on a DC is disabled, and the account that is active is the Domain Admin account. Please verify where you are trying to log into, the local computer (which on a DC I don't think is possible) or the Domain. Also, make sure you are using the password for the Domain Account, which I dont think a password CD would change.
As long as you are sure what account and where you are logging into, it should work.Scotty

are any computers joined to the domain? Does the domain admin account work on one of these computers? I am wondering if the password got changed somehow, and not documented.Scotty

Yes, i have 2 computers joined to the domain and i can't login as Administrator. In that case. Could i log in as Administrator in directory services restore mode?

From my experience, the directory restore mode password is a specific password setup during DCPromo, or when the Domain Controller is created. This password can be the same as the other admin passwords, but it will not get changed if the domain admin password is changed. It looks like the password on the administrator account got changed. Is there a user account with Domain Admin privileges. With that, you can change it back.
At this point, it is beyond my skills to assist, as I am not sure how to change a domain admin password if you do not have domain admin rights.
I hope the best of luck to you at resolving this.Scotty
