Problem joining a domain
Hi, I have two windows 2008 servers that is able to join a domain but i have issue with 1 windows 2008 server. On that server, i can ping the domain but whenever i try to join the domain, it prompts the following error: DNS was successfully queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate an Active Directory Domain Controller for domain domain.com: The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.domain.com The following AD DCs were identified by the query: svr0001.domain.com cktad.domain.com Common causes of this error include: - Host (A) records that map the name of the AD DCs to its IP addresses are missing or contain incorrect addresses. - Active Directory Domain Controllers registered in DNS are not connected to the network or are not running. For information about correcting this problem, click Help. I replace the actual domain to just domain. Also I realise that netlogon service is not started and cannot be started with the following error: This computer is configured as a member of a workgroup, not as a member of a domain. The Netlogon service does not need to run in this configuration. How can I troubleshoot and get this server to join the domain? Please advise. Thanks yongsan

I replace the actual domain to just domain >>> What does that mean? Do you have errors on the DC? Try restarting the Netlogon service on the DC and try again. Please paste IPCONFIG/ALL from your DC and Window 2008 server here. Hi Yongsan, Based on the symptom, the cause could be that the firewall on problematic server was active and preventing the necessary communication. So that help us isolate the issue, please help answer following questions: 1. Is there any 3rd party firewalls on your problematic server? 2. Have you tried closing the firewall and re-joining the domain again? Meanwhile, Please collect Netsetup log (It’s located in the %SystemRoot%\debug folder) and paste it to the forum for further research. Please check if the following articles can fix this issue.
