Problem installing Windows Server 2008 R2
Hello all, I am having an issue installing Windows Server 2008 R2 on a Dell Poweredge R410. I keep getting various blue screens and error messages. It used to hang after the Starting Windows animation with just a mouse cursor on a black screen. I enabled processor virtualization, disabled onboard NIC, and disabled the internal USBs and I can get to the install option. I am now getting different error messages and blue screens however. I have tried changing from Raid 1 to Raid 0 to no Raid and nothing seems to work. I have also tried installing from DVD and USB. I have run the built in system diagnostics with no errors, have run memtest for 27 passes with no errors and ran a boot and nuke with no errors. The errors I am getting are: "Windows could not retrieve information about the disks on this computer" "STOP C0000006 The instruction at 0x%P referenced memory at 0x%P. The required data was not placed into memory because of and I/O error status of 0x%x" "STOP C000021a The Windows subsystem process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xC0000006 (0x769be304 0x0032caf0)" I'm not sure if it is a hardware fault or if it is something with Windows not cooperating with the system. It is under warranty but I would like to be able to tell Dell's support that I have tried everything. If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate the help. Also, if you need more information about the system that I haven't provided please let me know. Thanks.

I suspect that this is a problem with your disk or your RAM. To check you RAM, use memtest86+. For disks, contact your manufacturer Technical Support for diagnosis. You can also contact Microsoft CSS. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights. I've run memtest86+ for a week and it passed 27 time with no failures. I have also run hard drive diagnostics without any failures. I ran Darik's Boot and Nuke and also ran the hard drive diagnostics that came with the Dell Server Management. I know signs point to either RAM or hard drive but tests show otherwise.

Dell should probably help you troubleshoot if there are hardware problems--they're pretty good that way. I can't imagine you'd have to jump though all those hoops just to get the NOS installed. Are you sure your install DVD/base image is clean and uncorrupted? Do you have the disk controller drivers available when you install? There's a point in the install process where it will let you load them. Also, I would definitely check for the latest firmware/BIOS updates and make sure everything's copacetic. Good luck! Hi, If Dell cannot fix the issue for you, you may also contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support (CSS) via telephone so that a dedicated Support Professional can assist with your request. To troubleshoot this kind of kernel crash issue, we need to debug the crashed system dump. Unfortunately, debugging is beyond what we can do in the forum. Please be advised that contacting phone support will be a charged call. To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;OfferProPhone#faq607 Regards,Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.
