Print Spooler Service
I am trying to figure out if the print spooler is necessary. We have a Windows 2003 server SP2 and the print spooler service is on. I wanted to know if the print spooler is just for print servers or any server that has applications that print? Any help clearing this up would be greatly appreciated.

My understanding is If you have printers attached to the server(local or network) then if you disable it, you can't print, so If you have no printers attached to you server then it should be safe to disable. If your application that resides on the server requires a printer attached to the server, then you'll need to keep it enabled. hope this makes sense :) Shane Shane Hoey psugbne.org | Powershell Usergroup Brisbane

Hi, Print Spooler service is needed for all systems if you would like to install printer (local or network printer). With Print Spooler driver disabled, you will get error when trying to add or connect the printer.
