Print Migration Wizard 2008 to 2008 R2
Setup: Current Print Server: Windows 2008 Std 64bit Destination Printer Server: Windows 2008 R2 Standard Work done: I exported my print server to a file. Using Printer Migration Wizard in print management. Question: I want to know what happens after the import in to the new server. Will it affect my old print server? I do not want my current users to be disconnected from the current print server. I have future plans to create an alias for printers to avoid this in the future. So all that said I am hoping after the import I have 2 working print queues. Any information would be helpful. Thanks!Sgarvie IT Guy

Sgarvie IT Guy Your current users will not be disconnected after you have imported your file on the new server, assuming the new print server does not have the same name as the old. If all goes well, you will have printers installed on that new server. But, user's print jobs won't be directed to that printer because their printers still point to the original print server. Remember, the user's printers point to a share on a specific server, the original one. Once you're done, you will have to use a GPO, or some other method to connect users to printers on the new server.

Client won’t be disconnected from the old print server. But you need to change the client printer mapping to new Primer server in the future.
