Power View and Sharepoint Server 2010 with SQL Server 2008 R2

Hello. My customer have a SharePoint Server 2010 farm with SQL Server 2008 R2. We are designing a solution that will use Power View. Do I need to upgrade the SQL Server version of the SharePoint Server 2010 farm to SQL Server 2012? Or do I just need to install SQL Server 2012 on another server and from there use Power View integrated with the current SharePoint Server 2010 farm?

Thanks,

Your server which is hosting SSRS Catalog DBs must be SQL 2012. You will also need SQL Tabular instance for PowerPivot and PowerView which must also be 2012.

your other content databases can reside on 2008 R2.
