Planning dev, test and prod environment
We are planning to split our workplace in the 3 classics environment: DEV, TEST and PROD. I am thinking to dedicate a VM (using hyper-v) to each of the environment, tuning the machines performance according to their needs. Virtual machines will contain w2k3 server as application server, sql 2005/2008 ... and other few things. Can you please advice me some white paper on best practices to do planning, design and implementing this task ? Any help appreciated. Regards.

hi there, It is difficult to provide a white paper per architecture basis , but we could definitely provide an outline as to how to setup the architecture. But i would always feel to consult microsoft consultant services where in you will get precise answers and suggestions and also the risks involved in your network ( if any ) .But from the forum all that you can get is Hyper-v setup , installation and configuration of your VM's but it again depends whether you want to use 3 different subnets for handling DEV, TEST and PROD environment, if so then the plan of action would differe which might involve hardware to provide segregation between 3 environments, setting up Domain and DC for contacting microsoft consulting service, i would suggest you follow the below link http://www.microsoft.com/Microsoftservices/home.aspxBut if you do not want to contact MCS and want to proceed with this thread, please do reply back.sainath

Hi Sainath and thanks for answer. I already have an hyper-v hosr up and running and also have a firewall with different networks in which place different environment. Our idea is to put DEV and TEST on the same machine (SQL machine and Application server machine) on a network and place PROD environment on a different network and of course different piece of hardware. What do you think about it ? Thanks again.
