Performance view shows no counters
I want to monitor this specific performance counter on some Hyper-V hosts: "CPU Wait Time Per Dispatch". To do this I followed this blog post: http://lichtsignaal.nl/weblog/?p=41. The only difference is that we are on Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 instead of 2012 RTM.

I created the performance based rule to monitor the counter "CPU Wait Time Per Dispatch". I also created the Performance view. But when opening the performance view, it shows no counters. I'd expect to see a counter per CPU, but there are no lines for counters.

What can be wrong in this? How can I troubleshoot this?

Hi,

Please check if the proper performance rule is enabled.

Hello Xin,

Thank you for your reaction. I have created the rule as stated in http://lichtsignaal.nl/weblog/?p=41 (as stated before). The Rule is set to be enabled by default.

A few things that should be checked.

1) check the systems to verify the perf counter is actually working

the first thing to do would be to verify that the counters are working on the individual Hyper-V Servers. open up performance monitor and select the performance object, and counter, and verify that it creates a line graph on the hyper-v system. also check event viewer to make sure no errors about loading perf counters after adding the hyper-v counter to a chart.

2) check the opsmgr performance collection

A) create a new mp
B) create a new rule that you will put in this mp to collect the performance collection. I would create the rule disabled, and I would target it to all Windows Servers.

C) Next I would create a new group in the new mp, call it 'perf collection hyper-v', then add your hyper-v hosts to this group. Create  a new performance view, scope it to the 'perf collection hyper-v' group. see if it works.

D) wait 10 to 20 minutes to see if the performance data starts coming in for these systems.

hope this helps!

Hi

In addition check performance counter name in rule, as scom performance counter name is case sensitive, it should match with case in perfmon tool.

Regards
