Paging increased after enabling AWE for SQL Server
HI all,
Please help me with this. Recently figured our SQL Server cannot benefit from the 8 gigs so made the following changes on the box (Win 2000 Advanced Server, 6GB, SQL Server 2000 Enterprise SP4)
Added \3GB switch in boot.ini along with \PAE
Enabled lock pages in memory for the sql service account in the group policy
Enabled AWE in SQL and specified 5gigs as a maximum mem available for SQL.
I was expecting that paging will no longer occur on the box however paging activity increased. Currently I see the following perfmon counter averages during a 24hr period:
Memory\Available MB: 800 (previously 3500)
Memory\Pages/sec: 300 (previously 50)
Paging File\% Usage: 15% (previously 9%)
Can anyone please explain what happens here?
Does SQL benefit from the extra memory available to the service? It should I guess.
thanks.
