Does server 2008 have a pop 3 or a way to receive email for other networks. Basically, is there a way to set up fully functioning email system with server 2008?Erik

Since the POP3 Server is absent in Windows Server 2008 you can't utilize the platform as you might be doing with Windows Server 2003, where you receive and send e-mail to/from the outside world through the SMTP Server and point clients to the POP3 Server to collect their messages. The SMTP Server can be installed as a Feature on Windows Server 2008, which means you can utilize it as a mail gateway. (it is still useful in message hygiene scenarios) If you need a fully functional email system with Windows Server 2008 you can install Exchange Server 2007 SP1 onto it, which would add additional benefits beyond SMTP/POP3, like Outlook Web Access (Webmail), IMAP4 andPublic Folders (among others). Alternatively you can use a Hosted Messaging solution or even other 3rdparty Windows Server 2008 compatible mailserver products.
