I need to P2V my 2003 server. It has a large d:\ drive that has 90% free disk space.

When i do the P2V i want the vhd to be a sensible smaller size.

How can i shrink the d:\ drive before the p2v ?   (in 2008 i did a diskpart shrink, then a p2v)

This is not possible with in-box tools.  There are some third party utilities that may provide this funcitonality.  If the source was W2K8 then this could be performed thru Disk Management.
