Sorry.
I've installcorrectly Oracle 10.2.0 client on Windows Vista, but i can't modify or create some file. For example, ifI goto the folder "C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_3\NETWORK\ADMIN" i can't create or modify "tnsnames.ora"or other file because haven't admin allowed, but in Windows I'm a admin user. In this situation, IfI try to connect to my Oracle server i can't.
Sorry for may bad english.
Thx.

Yes, can't have a good permission on this folder. But I can copy a "tnsnames" file, from another path and I paste on ...\ADMIN folder. If I do this, I can't connect to my remote database, and windows send me a blank "window error". :(

Hello Friend,
We also had the same problem, The thing is that while installing the oracle the Domain administrator will have the full right, and these are theprogrambased software, If the user is able to change the tnsname.ora fileit is notgood security, because the change leads to stopthe client application runing, So whatwhile installingoralcethe ora81 or ora9, etc directory willbe have adminprivilage by default.
Even you have the local admin privilage you are not allowed to access the file or directory.

In Vista (RTM), right click your text editor and select "Run as administrator", then edit and save your tnsnames.ora file. I ran into this problem myself, I could view the file in my text editor, but got access denied when trying to save it (I use a text editor that ignores write permissions until you try to save).
Hope this helps

Hi ,
Vista doesnt allow directly editing on the installation directory, but you can copy the file to Desktop, change it and copy the modified file to the original location. Vista warns for overwriting, click Allow - Allow - Allow.
Hope this helps.
