Open, edit and save files but NOT browse the directory possible ?
Hello specialists, I hope someone can help me out. On a Windows Server 2008 R2 I need to change the permissions on serveral folders to enable to let the users open, edit and save the files, but they should have no right te browse the directory. I have been testing with the standard as wel as the advanced permossions but it didn't work. As soon as I disable or deny the 'list folder \ read data' the file cannot be accessed anymore. To make things more clear on why we need it.... In a piece of software are linkes to files, for instance scans or tekst-files which the users should be able to open, change and save... We do not want them snooping around in the directory and see what other files and directories there are... Thanks in advance, With kind regards, Raymond Pijpers

Have you checked ABE (Access Based Enumeration) option? http://blogs.technet.com/b/hugofe/archive/2010/06/21/windows-2008-access-based-enumeration-abe.aspx?Redirected=true Also set proper NTFS permissions to accomplish it & more details in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/277867 In future, I recommend you post file/folder related queries in concerning File Services and Storage forum and the link is http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverfiles/threads Thank you for understanding.Regards, Ravikumar P
