Old Dynamic DNS Records
I'm using Windows 2003 Server. Old DNS records remain after workstations change their IP addresses. I believe there is a GPO that will correct this issue. Does anyone know where I can find the KB article?PDC

Not sure if you are using Active Directory, but i will assume that and provide you with some recommendations. If you are using Active Directory and you allow your computers to register their info in DNS dynamically (DDNS), then you should expect that when workstations change their IPs, the record in DNS will change as well. However, if you delete the Active Directory Computer Object and re-create, possibly because you are rebuilding/reimaging the workstation, then the new workstation will not have access to update the DNS record that remains in the zone. If you have scavenging enabled, the record will be purged eventually. The botton line is that this is because these DNS records maintain a Access List. Take a look at the record in question and access it properties. Go to the security tab. You will see which accounts have access to the record. If the workstation object still has access to the record, then i would go the workstation and take a look at the event logs, specifically the system log. If DDNS is failing, you should see an entry indicating the problem. Visit my blog: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.
