OS for a server

Hi there. I am just one gaming build old, and am completely new in the field of servers. I have been given a task to design a server to be used for a Fujifilm CTP machine, which is to be used in the printing business. The guy at the other end has sent a minimum spec sheet which contains the follows:

XMF Master Server

Intel QUAD CORE XEON (Single CPU) Based Processor Running at 3.0 GHZ or higher, 8 GB or 16 GB Ram,

4X300GB 15k Rpm SAS Hard disk in Raid 5 Config (Size Depends on Customer usage Requirement),

Gigabit Ethernet, USB, Keyboard, Mouse, 1GB NVIDIA Graphics Card (if they want to use client in this

machine), 17 Monitor (22" and Above in case of client Usage) we recommend to use HP or Dell Server

OS: Windows 2003R2 STD Edition 64 bit/Win 2008STD Edition 64 bit

XMF Slave PC

Intel Dual CORE (i3 or i5) Processor Running at 2.2 GHZ or higher 2GB Ram, 250GB SATA Hard disk,

Gigabit Ethernet 2 Nos, USB, Keyboard, Mouse, 17 Monitor

OS: Windows 2003R2 STD edition 64 bit/Windows XP Professional 64 Bit

I already have an unused Windows 7 64 bit Home Basic Single Language user OS disk. Is it possible to use it in the master server or the slave PC? If not, then please give the reasons as I want to learn.

Also, please provide suggestions on mobos and cpus for the master server.

Regards

Specifying hardware is really off topic here. If customer wants dell or hp hardware I contact them here for build design.

Hi,

If i understand you correctly, you want to install the Windows 7 64bit Home Basic in the master server or slave PC, right.

Firstly, i think you need to check the Windows 7 system requirements

http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/pc-requirements-for-running-windows-7.html

Meanwhile, as MVP mentioned, you could contact the Manufacturer.

If you have any issue about Windows7, i think you could ask in Windows Client forums:

Regards.
