Not streaming media only lets me download

I set up windows server 2012 essentials, everything seemed to be working great, but when I turned on streaming and uploaded a song and a video neither of them will play.

I can see them when I login over the internet but when I click them to play them all it does is download them, what is going on with this? I thought this allowed for streaming.

Any tips or advise would be great thank you.

Hi,

Video Streaming is disable by default in Windows Server  2012 Essential.  You have to enable it with the following steps/link.

  1. Open the Windows Server 2012 Essentials Dashboard.
  2. Click Settings, click Media, and then click Turn on.

When you turn on media sharing, it creates four predefined   folders: Music, Pictures, Videos, and Recorded TV. If any of these folders   preexist on the server, the existing folder is reused as a shared folder for   media sharing. All the existing folders media content and user permissions   are preserved, and they are shared with all network users.

  1. Click Media.
  2. Click Turn on.
  3. If you want share additional folders in the Media Library, click Customize, and then select Yes for each shared folder that you want to include in the Media Library.
  4. Click OK to save your changes.
