I have a Windows 2003 server that is have a non page memory leak issue.We have DHCP, DNS, NTP, DFS, print services, file services and Mcaffee Epolicy serverrunning on it. After about 3 days it completely consumes the non page memory pool and quits responding. I have tracked it down to what lookslike afd.sys. But I have no idea where to go from here.So far what I have done is I have updated the NIC drivers and re applied SP2 hoping it would refresh something that may have go corrupt.From Poolmon.exe here is thegroupthat has the most activity and theafdp is the one thatkeeps growing and growing. How much memory do you have in your computer system? What you may preceive as a "leak" may really be a lack of memory, and memory pressure do to high usage.Have you determined what your non-pagepool limit is? A limit is the maximum amount of non-paged pool memory will allocate.What is the peakmemorybeing allocated to non-paged pool just prior to reboot? What tool are you getting this information from? Perfmon logs would be recommended.Are there any errors in the event log related the SRV service, insufficient resources, etc?Also, look into Mcaffee Epolicy and other products. I'm not familiar with this product, but what you want to look for are SHIM drivers that are installed in the TCP/IP Winsock driver path. These are typically used to monitor traffic for some reason (virus scanning, etc). In theory, these shim drivers may be causing the issue by not handling the AFD interfaced directly. Check your documentation or call the vendor for information.

Hi LCPScott,It is difficult to predict from your output, i would like to check the memory allocation vs deallocation. ( please post your entire poolmon output) If its AFD then we need to check if the process / thread whch is consuming the memory really belong to AFD ( i am concerned about the API )Check if the latest version of afd.sys file and check for the issue.

OH, the dreaded 2019 error.....Review this setting:[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]"NonPagedPoolSize"=dword:FFFFFFFFIf "NonPagedPoolSize" is anything other that 0x0 or 0xFFFFFFFF then some application or some person has tried to configure this setting, and this may be causing your issue. I have seen this more than once....Anti-Virus applicatiosn are known to do for this.If the setting is neither of the above values try setting it back to 0x0 then reboot. See if the problem goes away.If the settings is 0x0 already, then try setting to 0xFFFFFFFF the reboot, and see if the problem goes away.If the setting is already 0xFFFFFFFF and you are getting this error, you may have a memory leak as you think. Hi, For the memory leak issue, you can boot the problematic system with clean boot to check if the issue still exists. Steps to clean boot: 1. Click Start->Run...-> type msconfig and press Enter 2. Click Services tab and select Hide All Microsoft Services and Disable All third party Services. 3. Click Startup tab and Disable All startup items 4. Click OK and choose Restart 5. After reboot, check whether the problem still occurs If the memory leak issue still continues in clean boot mode, for the further troubleshooting, you may check in the Task Manager to see which process takes the memory resources. For example, if the SVCHOST takes the memory in climbing, you need to check which services are running with that SVCHOST process. For other processes such as explorer.exe, iexplorer.exe, you need to check which DLL files are launched by the processes. If the process is a service, you can use these steps to find out what applications are using most of the memory: Open Task Manager, click on the Processes tab, look for the process that is using the memory and note its' PID (Process ID). Please note that you may need to go to the View/Select Columns menu and make sure that PID (Process Identifier) is checked. Once you have the PID run the following from a command prompt: tasklist /svc This should give you the application associated with the PID you identified in the previous step.
