No internet connection after stopping firewall service
I stopped the firewall service on my Server 2008 machine and then lost internet connection. I can ping it, but I can't RDP to it now as well. I was able to RDP before. I've tried starting the firewall service again, but to no avail. Any suggestions?

Hi,
This is expected behavior. Due to the security concern, Windows Server 2008 will block to establish remote desktop connection if the Windows Firewall service is stopped on the it. If you disable Windows Firewall Service, please manipulate it in the Service console of Windows Server 2008.
In addition, if you hope to close Windows Firewall, you can use the following command to disable it all:
Netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state off
Alternatively, you can use Group Policy to enable theProhibit use of Internet Connection Firewall on your DNS domain network setting inin Computer Configuration under Policies (if present), in Administrative Templates\Network\Network Connections(useful when managing a large amount of servers).
Hope this helps.

Thanks, that did the trick! Still a lot of little nuances to get used to with 2008!
