No internet after RRAS
Hi
A friend mine says there no internet on client after they've installed RRAS.
Server is Windows 2003 Enterprise.
Server roles: Active Directory, DNS, RRAS, and directly connected to internet, (NO DHCP - Client are configured manually) .
Server IP:192.168.1.1 subnet:255.255.255.0 DNS:127.0.0.1 and 4.2.2.4 Gateway:192.168.1.1
A client's IP: 192.168.1.28 subnet:255.255.255.0 DNS:192.168.1.1 Gateway:192.168.1.1
nslookup shown error after he set it to 127.0.0.1 error has gone.
client's can't see (ping) server and vice versa.
firewall's off on server and clients.
the wondering issue is he says even after uninstalling RRAS the problem still persists.
What's the cause and what do u suggest?
Many Thanks

If the server has internet connectivity and it appears to be OK, then you should look at the RRAS settings. The RRAS server is either going to be configured to ROUTE or NAT. If it is set up to ROUTE, then you'll need to place a route for the
192.168.1.x network on the next router after the RRAS server, otherwise the next router will NOT have enough information to get packets back to that subnet.
If you configure the RRAS server to NAT, then you simply have to define the RRAS NIC for 192.168.1.1 as PRIVATE and the other interface as PUBLIC.
That should be it.Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

Hi MsITman ,
Thanks for posting here.
According to your description, I understand you client is not able to use NAT to access internet. If I have misunderstood you, please do not hesitate to let me know.
To narrow down the issue, please confirm the following setting on your side:
1.
Is the Windows 2003 Server able to access internet?
2.
Can you browse internet via IP address from the server or clients?
3.
What is the exact error when the internet page cannot be opened?
4.
Can you ping the web server, such as yahoo.com, by name on the server?
5.
Check DNS setting on the server and clients.
1)
Click Start, select Run and type "nslookup" without quotes.
2)
What’s the DNS server address popup?
3)
If you are using Window DNS server, please check the DNS server setting according to KB:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/323380
4)
If you are using ISP DNS server, please make sure the ISP DNS server address is under your server and clients network card DNS setting.
