No internet Access with Static IP on Server 2008 R2
I have a Windows Server 20098 R2 box which has been working with a static IP address for over a year. Then one day I no longer had internet access. I tried changing the IP to a dynamic and then I had internet access with no problem. If I changed it back to static IP, again no access. How can I troubleshoot this issue?ERP Software for Lean Manufacturers

I have a Windows Server 20098 R2 box You are just lucky to have Windows Server 20098 R2 ;-) how did you get that future version ? Please never mind, just kidding :) I understand that was the typographical mistake. Please verify the DNS configured for static IP configuration. It appears that, server is not able to find right DNS for internet. Also verify the DNS IPs for DHCP and static IP config, which might show the DNS IP difference. Thanks !

Hi, How are things going? I agree with K Seeker, please check the default gateway and DNS setting with static IP. If the issue still persists, please post the unedited ipconfig /all with both static configuration and dynamic configuration in here. Hello there! A bit more information on the topology - is there a chance that the address was given by a DHCP server to a different host? (is the 2008 R2 server you are referring to is the DHCP server?)

The default gateway is 192.168.1.1 and the DNS is 192.168.1.2. However I also tried 192.168.1.1 for the DNS setting and then also tried both with .2 as primary and .1 as secondary. The results were the same. Here is my unedited ipconfig/ ALL for Dynamic and Statis respectively. Hi, thanks for the reply. When I have the IP settings to dynamic, I am getting a DHCP server that points to the router. When I do it via Static, DHCP is not enabled and I do not know how to correct that.ERP Software for Lean Manufacturers

Scott, It appears you are assigning a duplicate IP addresses: IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.2(Preferred) Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 "The default gateway is 192.168.1.1 and the DNS is 192.168.1.2." Change the static mapping to a different address, or put in a DHCP reservation for that address. That is why the primary gateway is showing up as 0.0.0.0 -- it's looping back to the local adapter as a gateway. I hope this helps. -Brenton

Hi, Your default gateway is set to 0.0.0.0 you need to remove it. The Default Gateway may have been set to 0.0.0.0 on a Windows Vista-based or later OS running Apples Bonjour service http://support.microsoft.com/kb/970313 Regards, Rafic If you found this post helpful, please give it a "Helpful" vote. Thanks!! I need to keep 192.168.1.2 because my router is using that local IP to forward SQL port to the SQL Server on that machine. How do I "put in a DHCP reservation for that address" as you put it?ERP Software for Lean Manufacturers

Are you using a network device to provide DHCP or are you using a Windows DHCP Service? If it is BT at Home (As I am assuming by your dns prefix being BT): http://community.bt.com/ If it is Windows DHCP, then watch this : http://<cite class="kv">www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjxcD0PN010</cite> Its all by what you are using for DHCP. You dont' have to do a static DHCP reservation. You can select an IP address outside of your DHCP scope. EG if DHCP is set for 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.40 then you can assign 192.168.1.41-192.168.1.254 -Brenton
