Newbie - Help with Accessing Server
I am new to Server 2003 and only have limited experience in home networking my xp computers using workgroups but utilizing Microsoft Articles I believe I have got the folder permissions setup properly on my server but I cannot see them or the server I think from the xp computers on my network. The server name is home-server.Foster.local and if I type ipconfig I get the following: Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection 2 Connection Specific DNS Suffix Gateway: 2wire.net IP Address: 192.168.1.80 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: 192.168.1.254 Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection IP Address: 192.168.0.1 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 I have tried ping 192.168.0.1 and get this response "Reply from 72.152.65.1: Destination net unreachable." I have my ethernet connection from the pc's wired through a router and then a switch to the server and a hp printer, if I ping the printer 192.168.1.86, I do get a response so I do not think it is the wiring. Thanks for any help, -jmfsms

Hi, It doesn't allow to use two NICs to connect to the same subnet. You have to disable one of NIC and see if it works. If you'd like to make fault tolerance by increasing availability of a server’s network connection (NIC teaming), Microsoft does not provide any support for this technology thru Microsoft Product Support Services as Network Adapter Teaming is only provided by Hardware Vendors. Does Microsoft Support Network Interface Card (NIC) Teaming?? http://blogs.technet.com/b/aviraj/archive/2011/04/06/does-microsoft-support-network-interface-card-nic-teaming.aspx Brent Hu Forum Support Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help. The server has two nic connections built onto the motherboard. The first is a device for 10/100/1000 Mbits/second Ethernet LAN connectivity and the second is a device for 10/100 Mbits/second Ethernet LAN connectivity. I am only using the second one, while the other one is recognized by the system there is nothing plugged into it. I am unfamiliar with subnets and went with the defaults when I installed Windows Server 2003 Enterprise R2. The machine is being used as a single server for an extremely small workgroup. I can re-install the software if necessary. Also, I am accessing the Internet via the router from the server without issue if this helps at all, I look forward to the next suggesting, Thanks, jmfsms

Hi, A response of "Destination net unreachable" means there was no route to the destination. Please change IP from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1 and see if it works out.Brent Hu Forum Support Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help. Hi, A response of "Request timed out" means there was no response to the ping attempt in the default time, that is, either the server disconnected network/shutdown or blocked by firewall. So please try to turn off the firewall and check it again. See Turn Windows Firewall On or Off.
