Network monitoring MPs for SCOM 2012 R2

Hi

We have a LOT of customers with a LOT of different network devices within their IT estate. Is there a collective suite of network MPs we can purchase that would cater for this requirement? I don't expect every device in the world to be available but maybe 80+ percent of the 'most common' networking gear available within the past 5 years.

Thanks

Thanks Roger

That's a really useful XLS doc. So for clarity I assume this means SCOM 2012 R2 can monitor all these devices with the OID straight out the box? Or is a newer MP needed?

Hi

There are few steps you can take. SCOM supports many devices from different vendors, but not all devices from all vendors. Minimal Support is just having SNMP device "up-down" Support, which means you won't get any Details. A certified Support delivers more Details such as processor, Memory, Interfaces etc. To find out what is how supported you Need to check this Excel http://www.microsoft.com/en-hk/download/details.aspx?id=26831 . And maybe just discover and see what you get.

If this Support is not enough you Need addtional MP's like http://www.jalasoft.com/xian/networkmanager or like SolarWinds http://www.solarwinds.com/de/ for SCOM http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/cfuller/archive/2013/07/10/integrating-multiple-monitoring-solutions-for-network-devices-into-a-single-diagram-scom-opslogix-solarwinds.aspx

Cheers,

Stefan
