Network Device monitoring

Hi,

I have been asked by one of our customer to show the capabilities of SCOM for Network Device Monitoring. Below are the requirements -

1. Monitoring health state for hardware component (FAN, Chassis etc.)

2. Specific Port health Monitoring

3. Link Monitoring (health and Utilization) for each location

4. Single Dashboard reporting for below -

1. CPU and RAM Utilization for each Device

2. Top bandwidth utilization for each port

3. Top bandwidth utilization by computer/server or who is utilizing how much bandwidth with source      and destination information

4. Link utilization (total, available and utilized)

5. Hardware health status (chassis, fan etc.)

I have started monitoring of 6 Cisco switches but not getting the right path which can show the above requirements. Can anyone help me on this? I have to provide demo for the capability (Network monitoring) of SCOM on next week.

Anyone's help will be highly appreciated.

Hi,

Network devices are monitored in SCOM by SNMP and you can add the devices after the snmp string is configured and the device will be able to be added in SCOM.

The capability of what can be monitored it depends on what IOD in the SNMP can be read.

You can use the snmp walker to see what can be found in the devices

You can also check on CIsco to see if they provide the MIB files so that you will be able to get the information needed.

more information on how SNMP can be configured is as below

Once you have gotten the value, you can create custom rules to pass through the values for alerting purposes.

Rules can also be created to collect the performances for tending purposes.
