Netbios status
It's my understanding that Microsoft has deprecated Netbios for quite a while. Yet, Netbios over TCPIP is still enabled by default, even in Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7.
While troubleshooting a problem recently I disabled Netbios over TCPIP over the network. We then lost the browsing function. It's not absolutely necessary, but some people have gotten used to having it and want it back. I have no particular objection to
re-enabling the feature so I will do it.
I've read somewhere that it's been deprecated since Windows 2000. So when is it going to be removed from Windows? Is it going to be?
Thanks and regards

Netbios will completely vanish when everyone moves to IPv6. There is no provision for Netbios over TCP/IP in IPv6.

Ha! Might as well say it's going to be there forever! :-)
Thanks for the clarification! That could be a useful piece of knowledge if and when we start using v6 internally.
