Netbios across domain
Hello Everyone. We are facing a Active Directory Migration from DOMAIN A to DOMAIN B (2 forest with wide open 2 way transitional trust) Now we have 3rd party tool which needs to resolve all the NETBIOS names for the DOMAIN A from a host joined to DOMAIN B to work properly. Is this possible? Any idea on how we can accomplish this ? Thank you very much in advance for your time, Regards, Alessandro.

I'm not 100% sure but you might be able to use a WINS server for this. You should be able to set that up on your DHCP server.

Correct on the WINS suggestion. WINS is for NetBIOS name resolution and is not dependent on domain membership. You can have domains from different forests, different versions of AD, etc.. and have all of them update records in WINS as there is no security or authentication preventing the clients from registering. yes you need Wins server to do this more on this please refer the links below WINS enables the Computer Browser service to collect and distribute browse lists across IP routers. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc784180(WS.10).aspx In a multiple subnet environment, make sure WINS is configured properly so that you have the proper NetBIOS name resolution. http://blogs.technet.com/b/networking/archive/2008/07/25/netbios-browsing-across-subnets-may-fail-after-upgrading-to-windows-server-2008.aspx If there are more inquiries on this issue, please feel free to let us know.http://www.arabitpro.com
