Was referred here from Lawrence. Environment 2008 SP2 - lost my WSUS data base and needed to re-install was given instructions to remove but that was for 2003. Now i need to remove/install WSUS roleand can't get past this error. This role won't install or uninstall. Here is a copy from the WSUS help side - Hopefully you can help me get back on track? I did not read closely enough. The procedure provided is for uninstalling WSUS as an application on a Windows Server 2003 system. For uninstalling WSUS as a Role, you'll need to follow the Window Server 2008 procedures for uninstalling a ROLE. If it won't uninstall, you should ask for general guidance in the Windows Server 2008 forums for uninstalling a ROLE that will not uninstall. WSUS forum sent me to this forum for help. Just need to uninstall a role which won't uninstall as stated above.

Could somebody help me out here? WSUS support doesn't include fixing roles. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.NEVER Mind - found my own answers.

The WSUS was totally messed up. Was running on a SCSI drive which was failing and failed. Which caused the initial problem. Long story short - paid $$$ for microsoft to help me out.

what ended up solving the issue?

Paid $$$ to Microsoft to help me reinstall WSUS database and programs. Took 8 hours to fix cause as he fixed one part another would fail. Load up some tools to remove the installed role, then we had permission issues - what a nightmare. To solve the issue was to get WSUS off of the scsi device which was failing and install on the servers drives. As of today, I haven't had issues and pc which didn't get update before are now getting. All over a scsi connected device.
