NLB Cluster setup - confusing GUI

Hi,

I just try to set up a NLB with two 2012R2 hosts

TL-Node1.test.local

IPNIC1 10.2.0.100

IPNIC2 10.1.0.18

TL-Node2.test.local

IPNIC1 10.2.0.99

IPNIC2 10.1.0.19

The cluster should be reached trough:

10.1.0.20 NLB.test.local

Now to my questions: It is hard for me to understand all the configuration parameters that are asked in the GUI.

Window 1  (choose the NIC that will connect to the NLB) --> No problems here

Window 2  (Dedicated IP addresses) --> That seems to be redundant to me. I mean it should be obvious that 10.1.0.18 should be used. What IP could I choose if not 10.1.0.18?

Window 3  (The Cluster IP address) --> No problems here

Window 4  (The Cluster IP address again with other parameters) --> The other parameters like name and cluster operation mode are fine. But why can I choose the IP address of the cluster again?

Hi,

#2 here you configure the priority of the node:

"In Host Parameters, select a value in Priority (Unique host identifier). This parameter specifies a unique ID for each host. The host with the lowest numerical priority among the current members of the cluster handles all of the cluster's network traffic that is not covered by a port rule."

#4 This is probably to configure IPv4 and IPv6:

"In Cluster Parameters, select values in IP Address and Subnet mask (for IPv6 addresses, a subnet mask value is not needed). Type the full Internet name that users will use to access this NLB cluster."
