My server had DNS and NIC Issues
I,m having a hard time finding the solution that best fits my problem and have come to the conclusion that i may have a few all contributing to my loss of hair i have a SBS2003 server 15 user setup with Netgear switch and Vigor router, across a structured cabling. the server has 1 nic and i use the router as the dhcp.exchange mail (working ok) shared fileserver. i have no isa, firewall sofware/hardware. 2 months ago i uninstalled symentec end point and now use kasperky server AV which is deployed threwout network. Before the new year i had to migrate all users from a dying box to a nice new server (HP ML150) and after a struggle enjoyed 5 months of problem free computing. recently the users have been experiencing slowness with internet connection, dropouts, and sage package taking forever to print. i have focused my attention on the DNS and have been faced with multple errors namely DllRegistry entry point not found, and my NIc schema looking like this Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : myserver Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Myserver.local Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : Myserver.local Ethernet adapter Server Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : HP NC107i PCIe Gigabit Server Adapter Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-25-B3-82-AD-18 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.48.3 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.48.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 127.0.0.1 194.72.0.114 62.6.40.178 Primary WINS Server . . . . . . . : 192.168.48.3 Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : fe80::ffff:ffff:fffd%4 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Disabled also my netdiag reports Computer Name: Myserver DNS Host Name: myserver.domainname.local System info : Windows 2000 Server (Build 3790) Processor : x86 Family 6 Model 26 Stepping 5, GenuineIntel List of installed hotfixes : KB923561 KB924667-v2 KB925398_WMP64 KB925902-v2 KB927891 KB929123 KB930178 KB932168 KB933854 KB936357 KB938127 KB938127-IE7 KB938464-v2 KB941569 KB942830 KB942831 KB943055 KB943460 KB944338-v2 KB944653 KB945553 KB946026 KB948496 KB948704 KB950762 KB950974 KB951066 KB951748 KB952004 KB952069 KB952954 KB953298 KB954155 KB954550-v5 KB954600 KB955069 KB955759 KB956572 KB956802 KB956803 KB956844 KB957097 KB958469 KB958644 KB958687 KB958869 KB959426 KB960225 KB960803 KB960859 KB961063 KB961118 KB961371-v2 KB961501 KB967715 KB967723 KB968389 KB968537 KB968816 KB969059 KB969805 KB969883 KB969947 KB970238 KB970483 KB970653-v3 KB971032 KB971468 KB971486 KB971557 KB971633 KB971657 KB971737 KB971961 KB972260 KB972270 KB973037 KB973346 KB973354 KB973507 KB973525 KB973540 KB973687 KB973815 KB973825 KB973869 KB973904 KB973917 KB973917-v2 KB974112 KB974318 KB974392 KB974455 KB974571 KB975025 KB975467 KB975560 KB975713 KB976098-v2 KB976323 KB976325 KB976325-IE7 KB977165 KB977290 KB977816 KB977914 KB978037 KB978207-IE7 KB978251 KB978262 KB978338 KB978542 KB978601 KB978706 KB979306 KB979309 KB979683 KB980182-IE7 KB980232 KB981349 Q147222 Netcard queries test . . . . . . . : Passed [WARNING] The net card 'Microsoft Tun Miniport Adapter' may not be working. In order to ensure that its DS-integrated peer DNS servers are able to replicate with this server, an attempt was made to update them with the new records through dynamic update. An error was encountered during this update, the record data is the error code. If this DNS server does not have any DS-integrated peers, then this error should be ignored. If this DNS server's Active Directory replication partners do not have the correct IP address(es) for this server, they will be unable to replicate with it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ i feel its a ghost back to haunt me from the legacy server that died, however i am not sure what tests is the conclusive problem to begin with to start resolving these issues any direction would be of great help cheers

Two things that i quickly note as a possible issue. 1) This DNS server should only be pointing to itself. It should not point to external DNS servers in the TCP/IP config.:194.72.0.114 & 62.6.40.178 2) It appears that your domain is domainname.local. But your server's primary DNS suffix is 'Myserver.local'? The server's primary DNS suffix should be the same as the AD domain name. The best thing to do while there is "slowness" on the network is to take a packet capture and see what is actually happening on the wire at the time.Visit my blog: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

thank you for the reply jorge, I am going to run the packet capture for an hour and paste the results here...cheers
