Multiple problems in 2003R2 DC
From some days ago this single server has been experiencing a multitude of problems tht i can't track, for example: 1) everything works ok for ~4 hrs, then users start losing ability to access a productivity program on the server, then file access(does a weird thing, only allows one user and the others time out), then RDP access, up to the point where the server is unusable and needs either a remote reboot using pstools or a hard reboot. Local console also "hangs", takes minutes to respond to clicks and keyboard, etc, all with 0% cpu usage and 1.5GB free ram and ~50MB free kernel, also, no hdd activity(and no errors or warning logged in event log) 2) After some restarts, checking event logs(and not making sense of errors logged as they keep changing) and following support site articles that don't solve them or break more stuff now the entire domain is unaccesible, the sysvol and netlogon shares are missing with journal wrap errors(i enabled wrap automatic restore and it deleted the contents of the sysvol folder...), cannot open any policy, etc. What's weird is that it logs dns errors(when checking the support for that event it indicated a PTE exhaustion, but i'm not using /3GB), ntfrs errors with io errors(but drives are ok) and it all looks like the server is internally out of resources or kernel pointers to the point of server death. i've also ran a chkdsk /f andreturned tons of logical erros due to the hard reboots, but nothing apart from that and doesn't fix anything 3) server is updated to the day(and kept like that), drivers and FW is updated, hardware has been checked and there are no errors, HW is a Poweredge 2970, with 2003R2 32b. 4) server has DC, exchange 2003, IIS web for exchange, apache for app server, php, DB servers(progress and sql), app server, backup server, antivirus server, file server 5) i've changed the onboard nics to a different addon one(with different chipset), that solved the problem for 2 days, then came back with a vengeance i'm.. quite baffled on this.... i've done an authoritative system state restore and now it works even less and gives tons of errors... i have no idea where to look for, it seems everytime it boots gives a different error and following the support docs breaks it more

Hello, for IIS problems, post in the http://forums.iis.net/ forums. For RDP problems, post in the Remote Desktop Services Forum: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverTS/threads To check that you don't have problems with your DC, please use Microsoft Skydrive to upload the output of these commands: ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt [from each DC/DNS Server] dcdiag /v /c /d /e /s:dcname >c:\dcdiag.txt repadmin /showrepl dc* /verbose /all /intersite >c:\repl.txt ["dc* is a place holder for the starting name of the DCs if they all begin the same (if more then one DC exists)] dnslint /ad /s "DCipaddress" (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321045) If you are using a multihomed DC then this is not recommanded. A DC should have an only one IP address and NIC card. Personally, I don't recommand that you install on a DC services other than DNS and DHCP and avoid to install applications on it. Mr. X. problem is that everything is interconnected, it's not a iss or rdp problem, is a base OS issue. I did a system state restore and the server has essentially died, does not start any core service, takes 15min to bootup and does not load network, AD, dns, wins, even trying a ntdsutil returns a "dsbindw 0x6b9 insufficient resources to complete operation". i cant run any of the other commands as well, services are crashing as soon as i start them or hang in "starting", there is only one DC/server which is this machine, so yeah, i'm having huge problems with the DC :D since dns service crashed, dnslint will fail, since all rpc and replication is down(and all management tools fail to find a DC or domain) repadmin fails too it's not multihomed, there are several nic but i've disabled them

How long dates the backup you used? Are you sure you have not restored from a snapshot? Have a look to this Microsoft article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/216993 This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.
