Multiple network cards on same network
I have a network with 8 servers, 50 users, 9 switches, and 3 WiFi AP's. I installed a new 2008 server with 4 NICs, Can I load balance the network access to the server by creating a bridge and connecting each of the NICs to a different switch. NOTE. currently all my servers are connedted to switch A, that switch is connected to switch B and C thru a GB cable, switch A is also connected to to switch D and E, switches B, C, D, E all have users connected to them. I have configured the 4 network cards with differnt static IP addresses. Can I just plug one each into switch B, C, D, E? Or would bridging them together and connecting the to each switch, Or should they all be pluged into switch A?

If you do this I think you'll need to put each NIC on a different subnet. Ideally each NIC would also be in it's own switch as well in case a switch dies (which is obviously for failover rather than load balancing). Not sure how important the failover aspect is for you. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;175767

It sounds like you are interested in teaming the NICs. To do this properly, you'll need cards that support it and the 3rd party software. HP and Intel have had this capability for the past 10 years. Simply plugging mulitple NICs into different switches is not going to create a load balance/fault tolerant solution. Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

JM speaks the truth. You can read about Intel teaming in their network adapter guide: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=11848&ProdId=2248&lang=eng&OSVersion=OS%20Independent&DownloadType=Documentation
