Move User's Profile to Another Server
Hello,
As I see, the issue is with the folder redirection. Please use "Redirect the folder back to the user profile location when policy is removed" option to redirect back the user profile location when the old policy is removed. Once done, apply the new policy.

Hello,
I usually set up GP's with folder redirection to sync files and folders but I just inherited a server that has user's profile stored on
\\oldserver and i need to move it to
\\newserver without interrupting any users.
I copied the profile$ folder to the new server and in the AD Profile tab changed the
P: drive mapping in the home folder to
\\newserver.
I have restarted the client PC's several times and the home folder P: drive points to the new location but the user's desktop and documents are still being pulled from the old server.
Is there something I am missing?
I have seen some articles referencing 3rd party software and registry changes but do I really have to modify all client OS's to change the profile path?

Hello,
I looked both in the GPO's and there is no group policy for folder redirection set. Is it possible that at one time the GPO was set then removed without the "redirect folder back.." configured?
I have no idea how this folder redirection exists because there is no GPO for folder redirection defined in any of the GPOs.

Hello,
I copied the profile$ folder to the new server and in the AD Profile tab changed the
P: drive mapping in the home folder to
\\newserver.
The TS profile has nothing to do with the P: drive mapping unless you are using the P: Drive in the TS Profile setting...which is usually not recommended, the TS Profile should always be a UNC path. Is that the way you are suggesting it is configured????
ie: TS Profile Path = P:\%username%, TS Home Folder drive P: =
\\newserver\profiles$ ?????
If not, i think you should update the TS Profile path to be
\\newserver\profile$.
If you use an environment variable in the TS Profile path you can easily change servers in the future. This article explains the concept and several issues you need to be prepared for.

Hi Mr. X,
I think that's exactly what happened. This client has had 3 IT companies in 2 years and several techs have worked on the servers. The whole network is sloppy and remnants of new people chaging things around while leaving the old stuff intact or not bothering
to check out what's configured before changing configs around.
Gunner: Yes, the %userprofile% defauls to P: for documents and favorites and a UNC path for desktop. I have been Changing them manually.
I am manually changing folder redirection to \\newserver\profile$\user using
regedit ... It's 25+ PC's, I guess it could have been worse.
Eventually, we are going to have install a new server and re-join the ws because the AD is a big mess.Naki K.
