Missing CD/DVD drives
I've been running Windows 7 for some time and over the past few months I've experienced my CD/DVD drives missing. Sometimes for no apparent reason, they are back and then a few days later, gone.
I've tried everything from mr-fixit (which doesn't fix anything)
I've tried regedit with the upper and lower thing, but nothing seems to work.
I've scaned this andI've scaned that, but nothing.
I do get an issue in my eventlog, but can't seem to find anything about the messages.
"An error was detected on device \Device\CdRom0 during a paging operation."
Do I preserver or buy a Mac?

I would recommend you to post this question on the Windows 7 forum.

This sounds to me like you have a loose cable. Try powering down your system and inspecting all the connections that are used by the dc/dvd. I would unplug and replug in each. Also check the event logs to see if you are getting any conflicts reported.
