Hi,

I am given a task to update my company's AD environment.  We have 3 server 2003 (not r2) that needs to be migrated to windows 2012r2.  There are good documentation that explains how to achieve this.  My question is it possible to demote a windows 2003 server and promote a windows 2012r2 server with the same name and ip as the one that was demoted.

Setup:

DC1, DC2, DC3 -> Windows 2003 x86.

Demote DC1, rename the server to DC-remove, remove the  DC1 object from site and services and also remove the object from ADUC if it exists and change the static IP.

Then, rename windows 2012r2 to DC1, change the static IP to DC1 2003's old IP, promote the server as a Domain Controller.

Has anyone done this before ? Will i run into any issues in the future ?
