Hello All,

We have 1 DHCP server (2008R2 server) with 54 scopes.  Is there any downside to exporting and importing the scopes versus doing the migration of the scopes via the migration tools?  My preference is to do the export/import function but I wanted to make sure the scopes all came over.   We don't have any multicast scopes. The scopes are just simple scopes with a lot of reservations and scope options of 003, 006, 015.

 You can migrate dhcp from server 2008 r2 to server 2012 r2(export/import scopes,leases,dc,etc) with following the steps on forums answer;

Thanks. I have reviewed both (although I thought the export and import of the dhcp is in .dat and not .txt format) and my question is does it matter?  Would all the DHCP scopes come over without any issues using the import/export function versus the migration process?

 doesn't matter you can also use .dat format.ALso all scopes will comes without any issue,on my experience.

Ok thanks for the reply. I guess I'm just a little puzzled what the difference is between the 2 methods. I'm sure the export and import will work just fine

I was wondering the same thing. Can't seem to find anything from the Microsoft team explaining what the difference is between the 2 methods or which method is recommended and why. However, I've tried both and they work.
