Migrate Apps, Mapped drives, Printers & Pst's

Hi All

We manually have to migrate users settings from their old machines to their new machines and this looks to me like a job for powershell.

I want to export all this data to a file share on a server then import it from there onto their new machine

I need to:

Gather the installed programs and product keys on the system to a text file

Export the mapped drives to the unc path & import them from there

Export the pst files the user has tethered to their outlook

Export the printers in their print que and the drivers for the same & Import from destination

Is there anything else that would be useful?  Anyone succeed with any of the above, got any pointers?

Im thinking of starting with printbrm.exe   to export the printers

Thanks for reading

Hi,

Look into the USMT before trying to script something:

Hi

USMT defintelty looks the way to go

Just wondering can It

Utilize the easy transfer cable

Export over the drive mappings

export over the pst files the user has tethered to their outllook

be set to always run against only the urrently logged on profile only

be set to always copy over e.g.  contents e.g.  C:   and d:  with the exception of c:\windows c:\program files and everything else

I want to configure this to be a 1 touch operation so to speak

Thanks

I'm not sure, I haven't ever actually needed to use the tool.

Perhaps the deployment forum for the OS you're using will have some answers for you:

USMT can do all of that and more.  A limited version called the User Migration Wizard has been packaged with every copy of Desktop Windows since XP. It can be extended in almost any way needed.
