I have the following Matrix tablix and I'm looking to merge cell on the area highlighted.

Hi Richard,

In Reporting Services, if we have added a row group in a Tablix control, its not supported to merge cells in different detail rows vertically, merge cells is only available when we can perform merge cells operation for those cells in the same detail row horizontally. So its expected that you are not able to see the Merge Cells option when you drag vertically to select adjacent cells in different detail rows.

In your scenario, since the matrix doesnt contain any column group, and the Remarks column only display one value specified by the expression. You can add a row group, set the Group expression and value with the same expression you have specified in Remarks column. Then the value calculated by the expression will occupy the place across all the detail rows vertically. In this way, we can get the same result as using the Merge Cells option.
