Memory leak in server 2008 R2
Hi I have about 150 file and print servers with 2008 R2 OS on HP and Dell hardware. I notices that some of the servers perform poorly, while their number is rising every day. when I look in task manager, I see the RUNDLL32.exe is consuming high memory until the server stops responding. I ran process monitor and filtered rundll32.exe. I got lots of entries for 'RegOpenKey' and 'RegQueryKey'. on the result column i see SUCCESS or NAME NOT FOUND alternately. in the properties of one of the lines, the command line field shows: rundll32 C:\Windows\system32\spool\DRIVERS\x64\3\hpmsn104.dll,MonitorPrintJobStatus /pjob=220 /pname"P002" P002 is a printer name. can I conclude that hpmsn104.dll is causing memory leak? how can I continue researching this case to come to a definite conclusion. Please advise urgently. Thanks TH

Alternatively use the Generic HP print drivers as they seem to be causing less of a problem on server hardware..

we use a third party printing manager software that uses the 'HP Universal printing PS' driver for all printers.

Hi, You may try to clear printer spooler files to check the result. Clear Printer Spooler Files and Enable the Spooler Service ================================= 1. Click Start, type "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks) in the Start Search box and press Enter. 2. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list. 3. Click Stop and click OK. 4. Click Start, type "%WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers" in the Start Search box and press Enter, delete all files in this folder. 5. Click Start, type "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks) in the Start Search box and press Enter. 6. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list. 7. Click on Start. In the Startup Type list, make sure that "Automatic" is selected and click OK. If it does not work, please contact your software vendor to check if there is any update available to fix the high memory usage issue.
