Management Packs
I am unable to download management packs from the console, I get the usual error of unable to connect to the webservice. Is there any workaround to this? Internet is working fine on the host.  Also, where can I find latest version of the management packs?

Hi,

Its best that you download the MP from Microsoft as you should read the MP doco. There is usually important configuration you need to be aware of before implementing (sometimes)

Hi,

It's a link to community management pack catalog

http://www.systemcentercentral.com/community-management-pack-catalog-cheat-sheet/

and Microsoft Management Packs

As Martin mentioned, it's not a best practice to download\install the management packs from a co

For error of unable to connect to the webservice, Check that you access internet direct without proxy.

Thanks for the replies.

I have downloaded and imported.

Is it common in all management packs to create a Run As Account/Profile for management packs? For SQL, I was asked to add Run As Account.  For the rest, agent action account as administrator was enough without needing Run As Profile/Account.  Those Management Packs included DNS, DHCP, Hyper-V, IIS, Azure, etc.  Have I understood this correct?

Is console a way to know whether imported management pack is configured properly or not?  As I found out about the SQL Run As Account being missing through it?

Usually MP don't need additional access if agent action account is an admin on the server (it has access to all the necessary resources for discovery and monitoring) but with other products that have their own security configuration this can become an issue thus a need to action accounts.

The console wont tell you, the alerts will. If there's an issue with access you might see failed discovery alert and or System Center Management Health Service Credentials Not Found alerts.

I suggest:

  • Having a look at the groups in scom and validating that the necessary servers are apart of the group/s (is sql server can be see in the SQL Computers group)
  • You could also export the monitoring configuration and go though the rules and monitors for the server to verify the monitoring is targeted correctly.
  • Use the monitoring views that are supplied with each MP to see what servers/instances are discovered against each technology.

Thanks for the answers.

But, why it is impossible to download MPs through console.  I faced this issue with 2007 version of this product as well.  Is there any configuration needed for this to work.  Often libraries are missing in MPs and one has to download them manually before adding the MP.  This is real headache.  Would appreciate any pointers in that direction.  THanks.
