Management Pack Lifecycle

Hi,

Can someone please confirm the following process.

I have a test SCOM server and a live SCOM server.

I want to tune my MPs in test before exporting to live.

Is this the correct process...

  1. Download MP to test. e.g. SQL MP
  2. Create custom MP for overrides e.g. SQL MP Custom
  3. Create overrides / tune custom MP
  4. Export custom MP to live

Do I need to also download the original MP to live also?

If the original MP had pre-requisite MPs downloaded in test also, do they need to be downloaded to live also (or will my custom mp contain the relevant references)?

Hi

Using SQL as an example.

You would also need to import the SQL MP into Live. You won't be able to install the custom \ overrides MP without the referenced SQL MP already installed in Live.

The sequence is correct.

You will need to import the original MPs (in your example - SQL) + the pre-requisite MPs + the custom MPs that have the override into your Live SCOM.

ok, thanks.

Do I do anything in terms of disabling the original MPs or leave them in place. i.e. to ensure that SCOM knows to use the custom overrides, and not the original overrides.

Overrides that you have created in the custom MP already the changes that you intend on the original MPs. So nothing to change in original MPs now. SCOM will automatically take the changes from custom MPs.

Changes could be disabling anything or changing the thresholds etc.

Hope this helps.
