Managed db server with multiple databases??

Hi, I'm confused about the database server offerings? I understand that I can have a 'managed' database-as-a-service. But can I have a managed database server as a service, and where can I find this, and what is the database count limit (per server)? I currently run databases on full Amazon VMs that only run Sql Server, and want to move away from managing the servers themselves.

Amazon do offer this service, and 30 databases is the limit. I am keen to compare with Azure before committing.

Thanks in advance.

Running SQL Server is PaaS (Platform as a Service) model. Having control over SQL Server with multiple databases on Azure also requires running VM on Azure with SQL server. When you run this scenario, VM with SQL Server on Azure, your limits are limits of SQL Server and you don't get 'only' 30 databases. Limit is 32,767 if you have enough resorces to run it. I don't believe that anyone will come close to that number but with stronger VM you can run 100 or more databases with no problem.

Hi,

Azure provides 6 SQL Database servers per subscription by default, can be increased to 150 and 150 SQL Databases per server by default and can be increased to 500. See this link for details - https://azure.microsoft.com/en-in/documentation/articles/azure-subscription-service-limits/#sql-database-limits
