Making my T320 Really Earn its Keep
At the moment I have an old Acer T320 running Server 2008 EE. The machine is 32-bit so I cannot run everthing and there is not a lot of RAM available for it.
I have installed SQL Server 2008 R2 EEon the machine fine. I have not done anything with it except install it.
I was able to install Sharepoint 2007 EE so I wonder if I should remove that and use a different SKU. Seems SP wants a database name etc? No sure what the problem is.
Now I have identified some additional servers I wanted to bolt on
Office Communications Server 2007 Office Forms Server 2007 Groove is only 64-bit so I cannot install it at the moment Project Portfolio Server 2007 Project Server 2007
Seems to be limited information on how to configure everything

Vegan,
Sharepoint wants a DB to store the information your going to put into sharepoint, it also have some base databases that allow sharepoint to function, since your tag says you unemployed mvp, fire up the printer, and start reading the manuals, develop some
installation guides and become an install guru on those products, then you can change the tag to employed. I think your up in canada, and there are several large mining operations that use the products you list.
The only thing i would do is look at the 2010 versions instead, like Lync server instead of comm 2007.-- :P Advice offered, If you need more help it is advised to seek the council and advice of paid professionals. The answer is always 42, or reboot.

It's probably part of the installation routine but ask them here to confirm.

Been there lots.
Dug up a 200 page word doc on SharePoint 2007 so I will use that as my reference to try and figure out how to get it up and running.
I have enterprise ed but I can get the lesser ed if need be
Generally though how can I get SQL to work, I used to use Linux so on that platform MySQL was CLI and loads of fun but once you got use to SQL commands it was not to bad.
Linux supports remembering previous commands even after logout so it easy to bring up the server to create databases

"how can I get SQL to work"
That's a pretty vague question. Have you run SQL Server Configuration Manager or Enterprise Manager? Also check out
SQL Server Installation Center
They will probably know more here.
