Make computer name same as user name

Are there any issues with assigning the computer name the same as the user name for Windows 7 computers joined to a Windows 2008 AD domain? I found references to Windows XP on 2003 AD domains but nothing about the former.

NETBIOS can still be used with Server 2008 and Windows 7 so yes it would still apply.

Hi,
We cant create a local user account which has the same name with computer account name, but we can create domain user account has same name with computer account name.
But just as Dave Patrick posted above, that may cause conflict if you use WINS in your environment. So its not recommend to create user account have same name with computer account.

What if we do not use WINS server nor NetBIOS over TCP/IP, and never plan to?

Thanks,

Although I would never recommend it, I think it can technically be done. The reason is that the sAMAccountName (pre-Windows 2000) name of computers is the NetBIOS name with a "$" character appended to the end. The value of sAMAccountName must be unique in
the domain, but if the user sAMAccountName is "jsmith" and the computer sAMAccountName is "jsmith$", that is permitted.
