MS patching and version archive
a) http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/bulletin/ b) yes, first token is release year, and the second is sequence number (overall, not in a sepcific category). c) They are released on a per month basis each month's second tuesday (so, in march it will be 13 march). My weblog: http://en-us.sysadmins.lv PowerShell PKI Module: http://pspki.codeplex.com Windows PKI reference: on TechNet wiki

Any feedback on: d) If you can do a), how can you refer back to WSUS to see why a certain patch didnt get applied, can you do a summary? Say for example you see a security update from 2010 hasnt been applied can you refer back to WSUS and see why that was or is it difficult to trouble shoot?

afaik, WSUS has no information about why update installation is failed, this information is stored on the client. Probably, I'm not correct here.My weblog: http://en-us.sysadmins.lv PowerShell PKI Module: http://pspki.codeplex.com Windows PKI reference: on TechNet wiki

If you run MBSA against say a workstation and a server and it lists 25 missing security updates, each seem to have a MS ID, for example MS12-003. A few questions: a) Is there a site that says when the patch was released by Microsoft, i.e. a master archive of all patches they've ever released and date they released them b) Are they in chronological order, i.e. if you split MS 12 003 - could the 12 be year? And the 003 be the 3rd patch they released in that catgegory in that year? c) On average how many MS's do they release per month/year? Are they in a batch, i.e. could you get 30 MS ID patches in one release? Or do they do them individually? d) If you can do a), how can you refer back to WSUS to see why a certain patch didnt get applied, can you do a summary? Say for example you see a security update from 2010 hasnt been applied can you refer back to WSUS and see why that was or is it difficult to trouble shoot?
