MS Windows Server 2008 R2 Administration
Hello, I've created new domain and testing it right now one of the XP boxes in the office. The issue I'm having is I'm unable to join the domain using FQDN, but I can join it using NETBIOS name. I can ping server by name and IP address, but not by servername.domain.com. When I run NSLOOKUP both devices, PC and server, see each other, though, again using NETBIOS name as an opposed to domain name. While driving back I thought that when I was joining the domain I used domainname.com without omitting .com part and when that didn't work I used NETBIOS name. So, it dawn on me that it was the issue. At the same time I joined the domain using NETBIOS name and in the end it belong to domainname.com, but again when I log on the domain listed in the login screen is the NETBIOS name not domainname.com. I still can't ping it and it's the LAN of the house. Any direction is greatly appreciated

Hello, let's start with an unedited ipconfig /all from the DC/DNS server and a Windows XP client.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.
