Hi, DaveThank for your prompt reply,Fisrt, you are right, I forgot information about my system: Windows Server 2003 standart R2 x64 with SP2on a Dell PowerEdge 1900 Then, I already tried the command 'netsh int ip reset', as mentioned that doesn"t change somethingSo I am going to check about any problem with winsock, looking at the kb325356, but it seems to me that the problem is elsewhere,as the symptoms I encountered don"t look like those mentioned in this articleI will go back with results within a timeGeth

Hi, I Tried to restore winsock following instruction in KB325356, then local network area is always missing so I couldn't finalize the procedure. What's more I have now this error when using the command netsh winsock reset: Unable to reset the winsock catalog The system cannot find the specified filelooking at the winsock registry entries, they haven't been restoring. Only winsock2 and some empty sub-keys without any other parameters. I reinstalled them with the saved keys (reg files) an additional info: my network card is also in default in device manager and when I try to reinstall driver, I get an error about a missing file (which one ?) If I try to uninstall it, I get the message: Failed to uninstall the device. the device may be required to boot up the computer. Is there a way to bypass this behavior ? Also, trying to add the optional component simple tcpip service, expecting to force a reinstall of tcp/ip config, I got this error: Couln'd install simple TCP/IP services component because a file or a registry entry is missing again no more information about missing thing ! Other tries : verified RPC service started verified plug & play service started used sfc /scannow in case of missing system filesregistred again netxx.dll It seems to me that the driver of the network card is not able to install due to a missing network configuration/file/registry AND the network is not able to work as there is no functional network card detected How to break out of that, without information about what is really missing ? What kind of thing is a system that is not able to clearly tell what is wrong or missing ? I am currently copying my backup on a true external usb drive in order to restore the system partition, I don't see another way at this moment. I wait a few after another suggestions ... GT

With regard to this make sure you're running command as admin something like;runas /u:Administrator "cmd.exe netsh winsock reset"Failing this you may have to resort to a repair installation. If this is a critical installation then I'd suggest starting a product support case.Regards,

Thanks for your help, Dave, I manage to restart the network and escape for a fullsystem partition restore.Of course I always have been working under the built-in administrator account.I tried to restore juste the system hive, but under the 'directory services restore mode', the fileis always used and locked by the system (???!), so I couldn't manage to replace it.The win2003 system we have, is an oem pre-install version and I don't have a win2003 CD, nor recovery console installed. So my last chance was to boot on UBCD4WIN CD and replace the system hive and it finally work again. Yeah !Regards, and thank again Geth
