List of Server 2008 services and processes
Is there a complete list os services and processes in Windows Server 2008? For regulation purpose, we are asked to disable all unneccessary services and processes. If cannot disable, we need to provide justification.

Great question that we are being asked more and more. There is a complete list of services, but you wont necessarily find all of the pieces in one place due how we tend to look at services - by server workload. One of the primary reasons we implemented SCW and subsequently created SKUS such as Server Core is to reduce the number of services running on server as customers have been asking for a way to solve the problem of services running on a server. Although our messaging to customers has been "don't meddle with system services, we know whats good for you" in the real world, customers wrestle with understanding what a service is doing ...and even more disturbing sometimes....what we decide to name a system service. Sometimes the service name seems like a reference from Star Trek. Take a look at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh125927(v=ws.10).aspx , System Service section of our Threats and Countermeasures Guide as well as http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832017 - KB832017 - Service overview and network port requirements for the Windows Server system ; The variables you'll need to consider are any new, out of band server roles (think Windows Streaming Media Server) or third party system services installed on your server. Oftentimes third party system services have vague service names with no descriptions so be careful.
